Recording & compliance
General information, not legal advice. For specifics, talk to a lawyer.
Is it legal to record my phone calls?+
Generally yes, with consent rules that vary by location. US federal law and most states follow “one-party consent” — you can record calls you take part in. Around a dozen states require every participant’s consent. See our state-by-state guide for the details.
Do I have to tell the other person the call is recorded?+
In all-party consent states — and whenever anyone on the call might be in one — the safe practice is yes. Announcing a recording at the start of a call is also simply good manners in business contexts, and it rarely changes the conversation.
Can Callmark announce the recording for me?+
Yes. Turn on recording disclosure and Callmark plays "This call may be recorded" at the start of a call, so consent is handled consistently without you having to remember.
Who is responsible for recording compliance?+
You are. Callmark gives you the tools — disclosure playback, private storage, clear records — but complying with the recording and consent laws that apply to your calls is the account holder's responsibility.
What about calls to other states or countries?+
Cross-border calls can be subject to the stricter jurisdiction's rules, and it's not always obvious where the other person is. The practical answer: when in doubt, disclose — or leave the disclosure setting on.
Features
How does Callmark record without call merging?+
Callmark gives you a dedicated calling experience: calls ring in the app, and outbound calls are dialed from it. Because the call runs through Callmark itself, recording starts automatically — no three-way conference trick, no carrier requirements, no taps mid-call.
Does it work for incoming calls?+
Calls that ring in Callmark are recorded automatically. Broader incoming-call support is rolling out — join the waitlist to hear when it reaches your account.
How accurate are the transcripts?+
Callmark records both sides of the call directly on its line, which gives the transcription engine clean audio to work from — noticeably better than speakerphone recordings. Names and unusual terms can still trip any engine; the audio is always one tap away for checking.
What's in a summary?+
The takeaways you'd write down if you had a free hand: key decisions, action items with owners, dates and numbers mentioned, and follow-ups. Each summary links back to the full transcript and recording.
Where are my recordings stored? Are they private?+
Recordings, transcripts, and summaries are backed up securely to the cloud and stay in your account. We don't sell personal data, and nothing is shared unless you share it.
Can I export or share a recording?+
Yes — recordings, transcripts, and summaries can be exported and shared from the app, so a client call can become a follow-up email or a CRM note in seconds.
Minutes & billing
What does $20/month include?+
200 call minutes each month with automatic transcription and summaries on every call, plus secure cloud backup. Unused minutes roll over for up to 12 months.
What happens if I use more than 200 minutes?+
Additional minutes are $0.10 each, billed on usage. If you're consistently heavy on minutes, bulk discounts are available — write to support and we'll set you up.
Do unused minutes really roll over?+
Yes — unused minutes stay available for up to 12 months. A quiet month in August still counts in December.
How do I cancel?+
Anytime, from your account settings — no calls, no forms. Your recordings remain exportable after you cancel. Note that App Store in-app purchase pricing and cancellation flows may differ slightly.
